Sofidel is committed to limiting its impact on the environment and creating a healthier, better future for all. As part of this commitment, Sofidel applies strict policies for the procurement of forestry raw materials. One hundred percent of the pulp used to produce Sofidel paper is certified by independent third parties, such as FSC, FSC Controlled Wood and PEFC. Sofidel is also committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and is a member of the WWF Climate Savers program. In 2021, Sofidel reduced its direct CO2 emissions by 13.1% in comparison to 2018.
Another recent accomplishment includes the company’s inclusion in the Leadership band of the 2021 CDP Supplier Engagement Rating Report. The CDP is a third-party nonprofit organization dedicated to helping companies, cities and more worldwide manage their environmental impact. The report recognized Sofidel with an A- rating, which is above the industry average for Paper & Packaging and the European and global averages.
Additionally, Sofidel is working to reduce the use of virgin plastic by 50% by ¬¬2030 compared to 2013 levels. To do so, Sofidel support Ocean Conservancy and has developed its HyTech Seas dispensers which are made from recovered ocean plastic. ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, established its ISSA Sustainability Committee in 2022 to develop an accessible, credible, and enduring multifaceted sustainability program for the global cleaning industry. The Committee convenes volunteer leaders from all facets of the supply chain and services sector to identify and develop resources members need (e.g., training and educational programs on sustainability, reporting tools, ESG, government requirements, et al.) for organizational improvement and responding to customers’ sustainability requests.
Although several sustainability programs exist in the universe, none focus on the unique aspects of the cleaning industry. While prior cleaning-industry sustainability initiatives have focused on green products and education, a gap exists regarding establishing recognized tools and standards for broader sustainability efforts including environmental, social equity, and governance (ESG) initiatives.
To date, the committee’s membership includes more than 140 industry professionals. Its emerging Leadership Council and Work Groups will focus on developing the specific programs and value drivers for ISSA members and the cleaning industry overall. Stay tuned as the ISSA Sustainability Committee shares its latest developments at ISSA Show North America 2023!
